Storyline:

Luka Chuppi begins on a promising note but it is really in the last 25 minutes that the film really takes off. Arjun Kapoor tries hard to play the restrained Prabhat, who has to be the motivation for a group of unlikely patriots. While someone is battling a wife’s complaints at home, another has to lie to his mother that he is out on a ‘training’: “Machhli parade Kabhi Jaane Nahi dia, terrorist parade Jaa Raha hoon Colunga to kamre mein band kar denge.” The cast is really the best part of Luka Chuppi. In giving its viewers these unknown faces, Luka Chuppi lives up to its promise: of telling you the story of the nameless faceless heroes.

Director Laxman Utekar peppers his story with the occasional hilarious dialogue here and there. But Luka Chuppi suffers from a sluggish pace, which is quite detrimental for a film of this genre. It is a crime thriller. The film needed to have been knit a lot better. The story hardly moves in the first half. You feel disconnected even though there’s something happening on screen.

The actors put in visible effort to lift the film off its feet. Unsuccessfully. It is only after the intermission that Luka Chuppi finally gets into the game. The cat-and-mouse chase kicks in and you begin enjoying the film. You are made to feel the race against time and the sense of impending doom. All the while, the daily life of Kathmandu is captured well on film. Dudley’s cinematography is to praise for the shots of Nepal, which show you not just the beauty of the place but the narrow lanes and nowhere lands too.
